At the time the leagues were split Alvarez had a returning head coach and 3 all league type players on there roster.   Seaside REFUSED to move up and without the Turners they would not have the team they have now.  The three league champs should have been forced up and Gilroy, North and Alvarez should have moved down in my opinion.  There will always be politics involved with these league movements.  Don't write off the Gabilan yet...Palma, Hollister and Salinas have 3 losses to better teams than anyone in the Pacific will play until playoff time.  Monterey has played the weakest schedule(-16.6) in the Gabilan and is 3-0.  We will see how much it prepared them for league on Friday night. Wins and losses don't always tell the whole story...Keep these numbers in mind also...It is a long season.

Pacific Average Strength of Schedule   -8.62
Gabilan Average Strength of Schedule  +6.66 which isn't stellar either.

Why should have Seaside been moved up during the meetings?  The Turners weren't at Seaside, and they went 2-8 last year.  Not to mention they have by far the lowest cbeds of any public school in the entire MBL, Pacific and Gabilan.  They don't even have the numbers to field a freshman squad.  Next year, Seaside will given and offer that can't be REFUSED, so don't worry runtheball.

This is probably a discussion for a different thread, but the CCS is really handcuffing the small school powers when it comes to the SBG play-ins.  Not just Palma either.  If Monterey beats Palma tonight and goes on to win the Gab; they get put in the Open and will have no possibility of making it to the D3 play-in game.  Say Saratoga was to win the DeAnza League (highly unlikely), they would be put in the Open even though they are a public school with about 1000 kids.  Same deal for Terra Nova in the PAL Bay.

As wonderfully as Seaside's team has played so far, they would be in deep in the Open division playoffs this year.  They would be denied the shot at the D3 play-in game, much like Monterey will be if they win the Gab.  Lame system, small school powers get screwed in the CCS!
