The Gabilan Division is a combined 8-17. They are 1-2 vs the MTAL and 1-4 vs the Pacific Division. Granted; the bottom 3 Gabilan teams account for most of these losses, but jeez! Gilroy, Christopher and Alvarez would all be middle of the pack MTAL teams this year.
Alvarez really has to feel like they got the shaft by being kept in the upper division. Losing Camel and the Turner brothers has been complete devastation for the Eagles. Those guys are 3 of the best players in the county. I really feel for Alvarez and admire those guys for fighting an uphill battle every week. If they have any chance at being competitive in any game this year, it will be tomorrow vs Christopher.
Funny that Christopher got called up to the Gabilan and MVC was able to stay in the Pacific. Alisal who is always a little undermanned but competitive in the TCAL got to go down and Alvarez who's won something like 1 league game in 10 years had to stay up.
Monterey going up and North High going down was the only move that really made any sense to me. I'm sorry to say that the Gabilan is by far the weakest "A" league in the CCS. PAL Bay League is way better this year. I can never remember the TCAL or the old MBL being this weak.
Hopefully the selection process goes better this year, and we have a stronger local "A" league next year. Imagine if Seaside, MVC and Alisal were in the Gabilan. Now that would be a power league.
